In 2015 I ran a marathon in a rather unexpected place. On Curaçao, sometime in late November. Shortly after returning home it was 5 December — Sinterklaas — and we celebrated at home. My Curaçao marathon story was, for a change, written down by my partner Danny, in the form of a Sinterklaas poem. A playful and loving tribute to an unforgettable adventure.

Curaçao is not just a beautiful island — it's a place that gets under your skin. The colours, the warmth, the people. Running there has something magical about it: the salt air, the rugged landscape, the sun that is already present long before the start.

The marathon on Curaçao is not for the faint-hearted. The heat is intense, the route demanding, and the support — though heartfelt — is sparse along some stretches. But that's also what makes it special. Here you run with yourself, with the island, with the silence.

For Running for Turner, every marathon is more than a race. It's a statement. A declaration that Turner syndrome deserves attention — wherever in the world you run. From New York to Curaçao, from Tokyo to Boston: every finish line is a step forward for awareness.

Curaçao, I'll see you in my memory every time I lace up my running shoes.
